Gwen Stefani “Make Me Like You”

Okay, Gwen. I see you. I see that you’re taking this solo comeback seriously now. After last years lukewarm “Baby Don’t Lie” and “Spark the Fire,” Gwen is taking us, her fans, seriously once again. I tried so hard to like “Baby Don’t Lie,” but it was a shame. I couldn’t even pretend to like it. It was just so whatever to me. “Spark the Fire” I liked for a week, if I remember correctly. My bf kept asking me to stop trying to make him like the song, so I obliged.

“Make Me Like You” follows Gwen’s first official single “Used To Love You” off of her forthcoming album “This Is What the Truth Feels Like” due March 18th. “Make Me Like You” is very Gwen; funky melody, throwback sound, and the poppiest of pop. I mean, if you’re going to dabble in pop music, might as well do it right. Right?

The video is cute too. A live video that was shot during a commercial break during the Grammy Awards, the video had set changes, costume changes, dancers, confetti, and the Target logo. Yeah, I get that Target paid for the video, but dang, at least use some Threshold furniture or use a bottle of up&up lotion for your elbows. Be discreet about the sponsorship in the video. But, its cute.

Troye Sivan “Youth”

This is my jam. Troye definitely has a sound that he’s creating. It’s sort of whimsical without being dumb, positive without sounding like a charity song, and cool without being cheap sounding.

Honestly, Troye reminds me of Mika. Hopefully, Troye’s sound grows as he ages. I just feel like Mika hasn’t evolved his sound. Every song Mika has sounds like it could be from his debut album.

Anyway, here is my new favorite song, “Youth.” I’ve already turned the volume all the way up and performed it in my living room, several times. I am Troye.

Adele “All I Ask” Live on Ellen

I love this song. Its the first song I instantly gravitated toward when I listened to “25.” This performance is fresh off the heels of her Grammy’s performance where there were sound issues. While this performance wasn’t flawless, its coo because guess what, Adele is a human. Weird, right?

Adele’s cinched waist is giving me heaven, while her sassy bob cut is all I ask for in a short cut. Get it?

Adele was vocally pristine. Sure, there were a few bum notes, but it added to the realness of the overly produced business that is the music business. Why aren’t artists allowed to be real? I mean, I love my overproduced pop girls, don’t get me wrong. But, I also let them have their bad days.

Question: Do you ever think about how a singer’s breath smells when they’re performing in front of hundreds, thousands, even millions of people? Think about it, what if Adele had poop breath the night she performed her televised special at Radio City Music Hall late last year? I’ll tell you what, it would be funny!

Lana Del Rey “Freak” Video Premiere

So, last week Lana Del Rey decided to treat Los Angeles to a premiere of her new video for “Freak” at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California. Well, it just so happens that I live close enough to go, so I did just that. My bf and I bought our $5 tickets and drove to L.A. listening to “Freak” to get in the mood. To be honest, “Freak” isn’t and wasn’t my favorite off of “Honeymoon.” I’m more of a “Honeymoon,” “Music To Watch Boys To,” “The Blackest Day” kind of guy.

Okay, so we get there and the line is wrapped around the building, like, the end of the line is nearly connected to the front. I see that and immediately get discouraged, but then I thought, they have to let us in, we have a purchased ticket. So, we get in and get great spots on the floor. It’s not as packed as I thought it was going to be. Emma Roberts kept staring at us, probably because we were staring at her, I spotted Lana’s sister, Chuck, and the girls from “Music To Watch Boys To.”

We bought two premiere posters to commemorate the experience and to match our little Tropico posters. Lana comes out, sings “Honeymoon,” “West Coast,” and “Video Games” with piano and guitar accompanists and I nearly crap my pants. Like, I had to stand and cross my legs so the voodoo didn’t slip out of my sweaty crack.

Once Lana gets to showing the video, I’m excited, but also hungry. So, I ask my bf if he wants to leave early and go eat. I know, I’m selfish and should have wanted to stay so I could be face to face with Lana and ask her where the hell “Life is Beautiful” is, but I was so hungry I started to nibble on the skin around my fingernails.

All in all, the show was awesome and it was freaking $5. I mean, who knows when Lana will announce a proper concert?

FKA twigs “Good To Love”

This is just damn beautiful. Her voice, the melody, the atmospheric sounds, the voice layering, the build up. F*ck.

The video was pretty to look at too, but the song is what makes it. I kind of lost my way with FKA twigs when she released the “M3LL155x” EP. Immediately after listening to that EP, I was excited off of the high from all the visuals she had provided, but after that, I never found myself listening to it. Parts of LP1 were magic and parts were just not my taste.

Although, with “Good To Love” I am ready to indulge, put my pearls on and caress them while I listen to the beautiful sounds she gives us.

The Weeknd Surprises L.A. With Lana Del Rey on The Madness Tour

I kid you not, I had just finished telling my boyfriend “wouldn’t it be cool if Lana came out and sang “Prisoner”with The Weeknd?”

Then, bam! Lana slides onto the stage like the chanteuse she is and I acted a damn fool. I started to scream like a 12  year old girl who just saw Justin Bieber’s weenie pics for the first time.

Mariah Announces Picture Book Titled “All I Want For Christmas Is You”

How adorable is this? Mariah A.K.A. The Queen of Christmas, is capitalizing on the uncanny success of her hit Christmas single, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by releasing a picture book of the same name. Mariah tweeted this link for preorders. The picture book is to be released on November 10, 2015 and is selling for $17.99, hardcover. The story is about a little girl who wants a puppy for Christmas. The lyrics to the hit holiday song double as the written story. Genius.

The little twelve year old girl in me wants to preorder this book so bad, but then I think, what if she decides to do an autograph signing? Should I wait? Should I just buy it and worst case scenario my grown ass has two children’s books? I don’t know. I’ll stress over this for a few days as if it were the hardest decision in the world, and for me, it is.

“Honeymoon” Gets a Release Date

September 18, 2015 to be exact. I seriously am anxiously awaiting the album. The title track, “Honeymoon,” makes my insides feel cold and sweaty. And if “Life is Beautiful” is on “Honeymoon,” and I pray to Lana that it is, you can all just assume that I’ve died and lived a happy life because I will lock myself in my apartment and listen to it on a loop for three months.

If any of you are in the Los Angeles area and see Lana’s billboard, tweet your photos to me. I’ll be in Los Angeles on Friday the 21st for the Taylor Swift show, so I’ll be a goober STAN and take a photo of it myself too. You know, just for the excitement of it.

Lana Del Rey “High By The Beach” Out Tomorrow. Watch the 2 Teasers Now.

So, I guess Lana knows that I was scheduled a breakfast shift tomorrow morning because thats when she decided she wanted to release the video for “High By The Beach.” Fitting.

I’m a little nervous for the video because she’s holding a huge bazooka while wearing a flowing (just found out “flowy” is not a word) lingerie set. Man, and also, while I’m being a Negative Nancy, I don’t really care for the song. Hear me out, I’ve tried so hard to love it, but I just can’t. I think the song sounds hollow. I mean, I can never really relate to Lana’s lyrics because I’m not into daddies, don’t wear baby doll, red dresses, and I don’t hang out on Hollywood and Vine all the time, but I can usually find a line that just makes me cry because its so beautiful. The chorus is nice.

Watch the 2 teasers for “High By The Beach” below and also check out the other Lana stories, under the categories section,  I’ve posted in the past, for the nostalgia dah-ling.

“High By The Beach” Leaks

I’m torn, do I listen to “High By The Beach” because it leaked? Yes, because I’m impatient and, like Britney Spears,

“High By The Beach” is pretty cool. It’s a little confusing to listen to because Lana has two albums worth of songs that are so far removed from the looped beats of “Born To Die.” It’s confusing, but also refreshing to hear Lana play with new sounds and also get a little inspiration from “Born To Die.” Is it my favorite Lana song? No. Am I about to pass the hell out from excitement? Yes.
