The Weeknd – “Party Monster” Music Video

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye just released the video for his latest single “Party Monster” off of his album “Starboy” and the visuals do not disappoint. The song itself is a bop, but the colors, filters, camera angles and everything visual in the video is top notch. A great music video adds to the mood/atmosphere that the song portrays and now I feel like I’m the Selena’s ass that he’s talking about.

Which, btw, which Selena do you think he’s talking about? When I first heard “Party Monster” I thought to myself, “He’s talking about Selena Quintanilla” because she was curvy and had a big ol’ dookie booty. Then, the photos of Abel and Selena Gomez kissing after dinner the other day came out and I thought, “Hmm, this is probably promo for the song because when he sings the line about Selena, he’ll have Gomez in it since he can’t have Quintanilla in it.” Nope, wrong again. Gomez is nowhere to be seen in the video and earlier today, Selena Gomez posted an Instagram photo with her booty showing. Really though, I don’t care that much. It was just something that was kind of bothering me, but then I realized meh, whatev.

Check out the video below.

Tinashe – “Company” Music Video

Story time!

A few months ago, I had a vague idea of the name Tinashe. I would see it written on music forums, scroll past and click on a thread of an artist I am familiar with. It wasn’t until Britney Spears released the video for “Slumber Party” featuring Tinashe that I even knew what she looked like. After enjoying “Slumber Party” a few times I heard what Tinashe sounded like, saw what she looked like and decided to YouTube a few of her videos. I can’t remember which I watched, but I wasn’t impressed or unimpressed. Her music and videos were just…there. And that was that.

My boyfriend and I road tripped to Ohio for Thanksgiving and the best part about a road trip, aside from my boyfriend being stuck in a car with me for hours, is the music. I played a bunch of Britney, Lana, Mariah, The Weeknd, The XX, Sleigh Bells, etc. After a while though, you kind of want something that you’re not familiar with, something fresh. So, on the way home at 10 P.M. we were listening to Britney Spears’ “Glory.” The album finished and I couldn’t think of an artist to listen to that we hadn’t already listened to and whose music matched the atmosphere of the night. I looked through new releases on AppleMusic and saw “Nightride” by Tinashe. I think the cover art had something to do with me choosing to listen to it because I clearly remember not being interested in Tinashe outside of “Slumber Party.” So, we listened and I was hooked!

“Nightride” is one of the better albums I listened to in 2016 and into 2017. I understand that the sound of “Nightride” is a little different that what Tinashe usually releases, but I hope its a sign of whats to come. “Nightride” is considered a mixtape, so I’m assuming this is the direction she wants to bleed into.

The video for “Company” is a sweet surprise. It’s definitely a standout on “Nightride” and the most radio friendly-ish. I do recall looking for an official video in December but came across a choreography video and was hooked on that video for a good week. Now, I love a good dance video because I try to imagine myself doing that dance moves in my faded, oversized Lana Del Rey t-shirt and sweatpants. The choreography is by Jojo Gomez and Jake Kodish, on Tim Milgram’s Youtube channel, and let me tell you, the dancing is phenomenal. The video is all I had because Tinashe didn’t have a video for “Company,” until today.

The music video for “Company” is simple, fresh, sexy, and very reminiscent of 90’s/early 2000’s videos that showcased choreography the majority of the video, i.e. Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson. Interestingly enough while watching “Company” I thought it had a similar vibe to the video with Jojo Gomez and Jake Kodish, then I watched it again and recognized them, found their Instagrams and had a full circle moment for them. I mean, how awesome is it that Tinashe chose to work with these dancers who posted a video of them doing what they love to her music.

So, pretty much I’m fawning over Tinashe’s latest release “Nightride,” the music video for “Company,” and the fact that she worked with Jojo Gomez and Josh Kodish because she probably saw their video and imagined herself dancing like them to her own music. Kinda like me, only not in an oversized, faded Lana Del Rey t-shirt.

ZAYN – “iT’s YoU” Music Video

What a f*cking great track. So subdued, smooth, with a lil’ groove. The video itself looks like a movie Vogue Magazine photo.

I’m one of those who gets really hyped on something and I want everything that has to do with whatever it is. Like, I want to preorder ZAYN’s album, buy concert tickets, and wear ZAYN panties right now.

Troye Sivan “Youth” Music Video

Troye reminds me of when I was a little gay boy growing up. Well,  the things that Troye portrays in his videos are things that EVERYONE can relate to. The video for “Youth” focuses on just that, Troye being himself in a youthful setting having fun, flirting, and dancing in purple light.

I remember, wait, what am I saying? Correction: Earlier today, I was dancing in the doorway to the restroom before I dropped a few nuggets in the toilet, pretending I was Troye in the “Youth” video before I even watched it. I am so influential.

“Youth” is my jam right now. It makes me so happy. I listen to it on a loop while I run on the treadmill, holding my chest down with my forearm.

Rihanna Feat. Drake “Work” Music Video

I like this unconventional way of presenting pop music. Beyonce with her surprise visual album and Rihanna with her surprise release and two videos for the lead single off of “ANTI,” “Work.”

While the videos are more vanity shots to give the song a visual, they work, work, work, work, work, work. The first video is a reggae inspired club scene, Rihanna always looking runway ready, Drake looking sharp. Cool.

In the second video all you can see are Rihanna’s nipples and Drake’s bulge.

Rihanna Feat. Drake “Work” Music Video To Premiere Monday

A teaser for the long awaited video for Rihanna’s “Work” is scheduled to premiere on Monday. Got a good lil’ vibe from the video. Won’t be anything stunning, but it’ll give a nice visual to the song.

Now that I think about it. The teaser reminds me of Beyonce’s “Baby Boy.” The part where she sings “in a dark, dark corner of a basement party.” I liked that video.

“Make Me Like You” Live on Jimmy Kimmel

The live performance of “Make Me Like You” was ight. It doesn’t have replay value for me. But the song is definitely stuck in my head. I can’t get enough of when she sings “Oh, God!” For some reason, the whole sound of that with the music get me like, YEAH!

ZAYN “It’s You”

So, the fact that ZAYN is going the R&B route is exciting. I’m not a huge One Direction fan or ZAYN fan, but his musical direction is showing signs of R&B finally being in the forefront of popular music again. It’s like the 90’s all over again.

Groups like Xscape, SWV, TLC, and artists like Brandy are what made my world go round for years. Brandy’s “Never Say Never” is one of my all time favorite albums. It’s in the top 5 for sure.

ZAYN’s songs so far are really smooth and I can groove to them. Get it ZAYN.
