It’s always a hit or miss with re-imagining of hit songs that have already been embedded into our brains. Last night, Katy Perry performed orchestra versions of some of her hits at the Harper’s Bazaar ICONS September Issue event. Katy wore a flowery, whimsical dress and a reddish wig while singing through hit after hit.
The dramatics of the instruments gave each song new life. It’s just cool to hear real instruments recreate the album sound, live. As a musician myself, I wet my panties for shit like this. “Dark Horse” is really a highlight in this performance. The strings are insane and the beat drop is juicy.
I applaud you Katy, but I’m still waiting for your “dark” record that “PRISM” was supposed to be.
