The Postal Service is a side project made up of Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie and Jimmy Tamborello. The band name “The Postal Service” came to fruitation simply because Ben and Jimmy would send each other musical ideas via the U.S. Postal Service. “Give Up,” the collabo’s only album, was released in 2003 and was a critically acclaimed and adored by fans. With platinum status, The Postal Service never intended to make more music and it doesn’t seem like they are making more anytime soon.
With confirmed rumors that The Postal Service will make an appearance at Coachella 2013, they will perform songs from “Give Up” in promotion of the reissue of the album for its 10 year anniversary.
“Give Up” is one of those albums that is timeless. The lyrics, the music, the tone, the atomostphere the music creates. “Such Great Heights” and “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight” are by far The Postal Service’s most popular songs. My little sister has said numerous times that they are the band that she would most like to see live, but she would never get the chance because the album was just a side project. I text her about this revelation and she probably got so wet that she needs to wear a wet floor sign around her neck.
